Using Your Out-of-Network Benefits

Roan Psychology, PLLC is an out-of-network, self-pay practice. I do not bill insurance directly. However, if your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, you may be eligible to receive reimbursement for a portion of your therapy fees.

Before Your First Appointment

Before scheduling your first appointment, contact your insurance company to find out whether your plan provides out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health services with a psychologist.

You may want to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network benefits for psychotherapy with a psychologist?

  • Do I have a deductible that I must meet before my benefits begin?

  • What percentage of the cost is reimbursed after I meet my deductible?

  • Is there a maximum amount my insurance will reimburse per session?

  • How do I submit an out-of-network claim?

  • Is there anything else I need to provide with my claim?

You can also ask your insurance company for an estimate of how much they typically reimburse for an outpatient psychotherapy session with an out-of-network psychologist.

Please note: Insurance companies determine reimbursement based on your individual plan. Roan Psychology cannot guarantee that your insurance company will reimburse you or predict the amount you will receive.

How to Submit a Superbill to Your Insurance Company

  1. Attend your therapy session, at which time your credit card will be charged the full session fee.

  2. Receive your superbill.
    After your session, you will receive a superbill electronically with all of the information your insurance company needs to process your claim.

  3. Submit your superbill.
    Most insurance companies allow you to submit claims through their website or mobile app. Some also accept claims by mail.

    Look for an option such as “Submit a Claim,” “File a Claim,” or “Out-of-Network Claim.”

  4. Follow your insurance company’s instructions.
    Your insurance company may ask you to upload or mail your superbill and complete a claim form. If additional information is required, follow the instructions provided by your insurance company.

  5. Receive reimbursement.
    If your claim is approved, your insurance company will reimburse you according to the terms of your plan. Reimbursement is sent directly to you, not to Roan Psychology.

Important to Know

Submitting a superbill does not guarantee reimbursement. Every insurance plan is different, and you are responsible for confirming your out-of-network benefits and understanding your plan’s requirements.
